The chalk face

We visited Canterbury this morning and had a look at Canterbury Cathedral. It is a very large, grand building that is constantly being renovated so quite a bit of the exterior was clad in scaffolding and inside, the ceiling was obscured by a temporary wooden platform to safeguard those working on the upper part. After a delicious lunch we drove back to the coast to “oooh” and “aaah” over the boats tied up in the inner harbour at Ramsgate. While we were there, I was intrigued by the very white chalk cliffs containing layers of dark flint. Quite a contrast to the dark volcanic basalt cliffs of home.
Thank you to all of you who have been following our travels over the past eight days. Tomorrow the reason for our long journey will be revealed.
