Ribbons & Decorations

World War II memorabilia of my father's.

On the back of the picture frame he pasted the following:

MONTAGE OF UNITED STATES NAVY UNIFORM
Years 1941 - 1945.

Blue field, white stripes and stars: The collar of Dress Blue uniform. Cuffs had three white stripes as well.

Rating Badge (Eagle, Ships Wheel and two red chevrons) Quartermaster 2nd. Class. It was worn on the right sleeve near shoulder. There were three other Right Arm Ratings: Gunners Mate, Boatswain and Signalman. All others were left-arm rates and thought of as less important. The four Right Arm rates were the original ones and represent skills that can only be used at sea.

Red Patch with Eagle, Machine Gun, and Anchor: Worn on left shoulder. It is the U.S. Navy Amphibious Force designation.
