Spinning at KLB High School
I spent today at KLB High School teaching children to spin. Between J and me we had 28 pupils from local schools and the high school. Some were really interested to try out the spinning wheels and I think most of them had a go at it. Spinning the wheel with the treadle was quite easy and they had big smiles on their faces but then we gave them some rolacs ans showed them how to spin and that was a different story as they had to keep the wheel turning and pull out and prepare the wool to spin. They all thought it was hard and would need a lot of practice but it was great fun and we had them laughing. This photo is the spun wool I took off the reel when they were finished. They were also shown how to card the wool before spinning and were shown how to weave it with a peg loom so they all went home with a friendship bracelet that they had made with two loom pegs. They had other things on too where they were doing batik dyeing and came in with hands covered in dye. A great day but very tiring.
Weather today was rainy with fluttering flakes of snow.
