Glen Helen Nature Preserve

Saturday
Pretty hot today, under sunny blue skies. We enjoyed breakfast out on the patio, then headed up to Yellow Springs to go hiking at Glen Helen Nature Preserve. After a hot sweaty hike, we treated ourselves to a yummy ice cream from nearby Young’s Jersey Dairy, a working dairy farm, making ice cream, but also featuring a petting zoo, and mini golf, so a very popular place for families on a sunny afternoon. Once we got home, we had a cup of tea, then showered and freshened up then went out again. We were eating out at Wild Ginger, our favourite Asian restaurant in Hyde Park, but on the way we were stopping off at one of Laura’s friends. A. and Laura became friends in Elementary school, but when they got older, A switched school to a private school. However, they lived fairly close to us, and their friendship continued -:they’d spend a lot of time at the pool in the summer. Whenever Laura has come home from foreign places, they always get together and take up where they left off. A. has her own house, and is an elementary art teacher. She has a steady boyfriend who is also an art teacher, but in high school. Together they have started doing an art open house in A’s garage, about once a month, showcasing their art and other local artist friends. It had been quite a while since we’d seen A, and many years since we had seen her Mum, who was also there. So we spent almost an hour hanging out there, before going on to the restaurant, where we enjoyed a lovely dinner.
