Small But Stubborn

After a period of truly diverse weather conditions, a handful of these are still around.  I am truly amazed.  Can you see how the stem is actually horizontal but the flower is not drooping and has its head up?  Admirable.

The description could be applied to some people, too, I believe.  :D)

A day at home.  Made up for the sleepless night.  Our darling gymnast, Epke Zonderland, is retiring.  He was Olympic champion, world champion, and European champion, several times, too, and is known as the 'Flying Dutchman' for his spectacular dismounts, but the body can only take so much and can only perform for so long at top level, and he knows that, and so he made a graceful bow today, very relaxed in his decision, obviously feeling very good about it.  One day, I hope I recognize the moment when it's time for a change.  But!... that is not here yet.

Even the poppies know that.
