Crystal
I had an early swim this morning and just as well for the heavens finally opened around 1pm and it's been lashing ever since. Actually 6pm it's
easing a little and a watery sun is trying to get through the clouds. What a contrast to the last two weeks.
As you can see I was not alone in my swim. The jellies are now out in force which doesn't make for relaxing swimming. A bit of googling and the transparent one with white stripes is a crystal jelly - and it doesn't sting but is bioluminescent ie it glows! Actually it's not a single organism but a whole colony. If you look closely it's very complicated with frilly tentacles and a sort of dome over it. The one in the extra, a compass jelly, does sting and has very long tentacles - the blighter.
We had lunch (again) in the Heron Gallery and met up with Robert and Finola. We managed to get a table in Da Rum Shack (!) wisely in view of the impending rain. We had to laugh for everyone is so hardy now - umbrellas were erected and the outdoor dining continued. Technically from today people can now eat indoors but it's complicated - vaccine certificates are required and social distancing continues. Some people aren't opening as they say it's divisive and they don't want to have to police their customers, others aren't opening as many of their staff are young and have yet to be vaccinated which means that although they can work in a cafe they can't eat inside one; others just don't have the space for the regulations to be carried out and a lot of people prefer to eat outside as numbers are rising rapidly. Ho hum.
And there's a new blog
