Wanderings & Witterings

I knew keeping my Blipfoto journal up-to-date wouldn't last long!

I led 'in person' worship at my home church of Cumbernauld Old on Sunday morning for the first time since 29th December 2019. And, with the change of Covid restriction levels changing during the week, we were able to sing (albeit while still wearing masks) for the first time in many months. All of this led to a very emotional morning for me.

A relaxing afternoon followed but, later on, I took a drive over to Coatbridge to find the church where I have been asked to lead worship next Sunday and the following one. A look at the Ordnance Survey map confirmed that the North Calder Heritage Trail ran fairly close by, so having arrived, I then set out to walk part of that.

My route took me along the first couple of miles of the Trail, but in reverse as it were as I headed towards Coatbridge Central station and the Summerlee Museum, where the Trail starts. I also discovered that the Trail, as it makes its way through the industrial, post-industrial, and less than scenic part of Coatbridge, follows the route of the former Monkland Canal of which now only a short stretch remains visible above ground, but not here.

Having reached Coatbridge Central station, I left the route of the Trail and the Canal and made a circuit back to my car. I see another quest taking shape!
