Return to the City
Today we took our first trip to London since March 2020. We went by train to Waterloo, and as we came into the station we spotted many new developments, mostly blocks of apartments, which have appeared over the past two years. Our final destination was the much older Apothecaries' Hall where we attended a very jolly "Return to the City" luncheon for a hundred members of our livery company (Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers). The extra shows the courtyard with the Hall behind.
Afterwards we walked back to Waterloo station via Black Friars bridge and the South Bank. We were very struck by this new structure, shown in my main photo, called One Blackfriars ,also known as the Vase, or the Boomerang or, apparently, the Tummy, which has sprung up on the south side of the bridge.
It felt a good time to visit London as it was so much quieter than usual for July. I think we'll be back soon to do some more exploring on foot.
