Maincrop potatoes

Potatoes are cheap to buy but nothing beats homegrown organic tatties, fresh out of the ground. 

Getting your order of seed potatoes and chitting them is one of the first jobs of the growing season and signals that everything's starting again soon.

I generally grow purple (difficult to get in the shops), red and white potatoes and go for organic seed potatoes when available.

The moment when you can finally dig them out is a highlight of the summer.

My husband baked some less than an hour after I brought them home and they tasted fantastic! I gave the rest to one of my best friends and allotment helper.
