Orange Jelly Spot and orange butterfly spot
Today's fungal find is a Dacrymyces species, probably Dacrymyces chrysospermus - the Orange Jelly Spot - on top of an old fence post.
The mention of orange things reminds me of some amazing news on the butterfly front. On my woodland transect last week I recorded what I thought was a Large Tortoiseshell - a species extinct in the UK and now only a rarely seen migrant. This morning I was delighted to get confirmation from Butterfly Conservation that it was indeed a Large Tortoiseshell, a sighting they describe as a once-in-a-lifetime event (although its my second!) and one of only a handful in East Sussex this century.
