View of Elie Ness lighthouse, from Elie, Fife

On holiday for about a week, visiting Fife for the first time!

We're staying at a campsite close to Glenrothes, so as well as being able to explore the area round here and the Fife coast, we can also hopefully nip across the Firth of Forth to Edinburgh and visit our daughter who currently lives there. Likewise she is going to come and join us here for a couple of nights at the weekend.

The weather has gone cooler, cloudier and wetter since yesterday when we left home, but at least the sun came out nicely by late afternoon - just as we were visiting this pretty seaside town and beach from where I took the main photo looking out to sea and the lighthouse. There was a nice little outdoor café just beside the harbour and we chilled out and enjoyed the sea air and the sight of people enjoying the water with various boats and boards.

Earlier in the day we also had a little look around Markinch (the town where we're staying). I hadn't realised that it was one of the stopping off points on the medieval pilgrimage route through Fife to St. Andrews. In fact I didn't even know there had been such a route at all! Apparently, according to a local information board, this route is like a Scottish version of the Camino way to Santiago de Compostela. I've included an extra of a very nicely done information board we saw, and of an interesting architectural feature in a building beside the town church (not sure what it's significance is, I just liked it).

Lastly I can't resist putting in an extra of a plant I saw in a hedge nearby our campsite this evening. I hadn't ever seen anything like it before and thought it was beautiful. I looked it up and it's native to Chile, but apparently grows particularly well in Scotland! It's called 'Flame Flower' (Tropaeolum Speciosum).
