Mortsafe

London Day 3

In days gone by before the Anatomy Act brought order to a shady activity, grave robbers would unearth the freshly buried and sell the bodies for anatomical examination. A rich family would rent a mortsafe to protect the body from thieves and at a later date the mortsafe could be retrieved when the decomposing body would no longer be of use.  Poor families would guard the grave by night to deter marauders.
