Victory for punctuation.
I read in the newspaper today that Mid Devon council had reversed it's decision to drop the use of apostrophes from street names.
The reason given for the proposal was that people found apostrophes confusing. While this might be the case it seems that people who take these decisions always look to lower standards rather than persist with what is correct and raise standards.
This picture on the canal side at the Broad Street Tunnel in Birmingham illustrates the correct use of the apostrophe.
