On tenter hooks

According to the information displayed at Otterburn Mill, possibly the last remaining tenter hooks frames in the world. The frames had sharp hooks that were used to stretch and dry cloth in the sun.
This method of stretching the cloth lead to the expression ‘to be on tenter hooks'.
And yes, it was rather wet!
