Remains of the Day
Camping, in a tent, in the South West of England with Storm Evert…? Well it was fine.
The winds raged and the rain rained. The tent shook through the night and there were pings and thuds. I lay awake rigid with fear, imagining the worst. But there was nothing. Air tents bend at worst and are unlikely to be damaged. I believe they are tested in 100 mph winds and so it proved.
We hung around all morning to allow the winds to die down, the rain to stop and my heart to stabilise. Then off to Slapton Ley - a natural freshwater lake separated only from the sea by a strip of shingle beach and the road.
There were many birds, butterflies, dragonflies and bees. This one is making the most of the remains of the flower, dusting himself in pollen as a result. A lovely way to settle the nerves at the end of the day.
