‘An Important Moment…Junior parkrun Returns
After a long 16+ months of Covid-19 restrictions, Junior parkrun returned to Edinburgh today, with events at both The Meadows and Inverleith Park. MollyG and I both went to volunteer again as marshals for the 138th event on the 2k course at Inverleith Park.
Since all parkrun events were stopped in March last year, I’ve often passed this spot (it’s the start/finish point and is opposite the entrance to the Botanics where we used to have coffee and a roll after volunteering in the past) and wondered if we’d ever see this scene again. Today was to be the day!
There are around 20 Junior parkruns in Scotland - my two grandchildren have done both this one, and one in Glasgow, where they live.
Though normally for 4-14 year olds, they are restricted to 4-10 year olds at the moment, but the buzz of excitement was as strong as ever!
Great, too, to meet up with the other volunteers, many of whom are old parkrun friends we hadn’t seen for ages.
Today’s blip was taken at the moment of eager anticipation at the prospect of 50 odd excited children arriving for the start!
