The beginning
Just before you arrive in Aberystwyth by train, and - as here - as you leave, you have the pleasure of travelling beside the mud flats and marshlands of the Dyfi Estuary. It was to be almost the only good time on trains for the day! Thanks to overhead damage trains from Birmingham to London were mostly cancelled and the few available wee taking a longer route, travelling slowly and making extra stops. Worrying when you are doing a round trip in a day with a brief interlude for a meeting in the middle! Amazingly Isis get to the meeting. Homeward was more of the same made even more fun by a 90-minute stop at Watford because a train in front had hit someone. Left home 06:45, returned 00:10 the next day; net time gainfully employed: 2 hours!
