August Arrives
August has arrived and all of a sudden the vegetation has taken on the look of late summer. The thistles which were in full bloom and filling the field with purple, are now brown and their seed heads gracefully float around us as we walk. The dock has gone to seed and turned a deep red. The vetch is also in seed, it’s pods green and plentiful, it’s delicate purple flowers no more. The weather was changeable with showers and longer spells of rain, and it was quite breezy.
I walked twice with Andy and Merlin, and spent several hours at the allotment - pulling up all my tomatoes as they have blight, digging up potatoes and trying to keep on top of the considerable growth of vegetation caused by all the rain we have had this past week or so. I feel quite tired now so we’ve spent the evening catching up with the Olympics and another episode from the BBC series ‘Who Do You Think You Are’.
Hope you’ve had a good Sunday x
