Heavy heart
I came home this morning from a night shift to find this chap sitting in the bird feeder.
As soon as I saw him I knew something wasn't quite right. He was sitting motionless in the basket. As I got closer he hopped around a little bit. His eyes looked dull and lifeless. He buried his head in his neck in the same way that I've seen ducks do. He allowed me to come right up close to him. I wondered whether I should pick him up. And then, as if stirring from a deep sleep he realised my presence and flew off. What the problem was with this chap I don't know.
It made me think that I take all this 'birding' for granted. When in fact I know that all life is precious. And as such should never be taken for granted.
A sobering blip, tomorrows will be a lot lighter (i hope).
