Physostegia
A Bumblebee seemingly in a rigid, unresponsive state on the flowers of Physostegia virginiana in the Gardens at Clinton Lodge, open to the public once again this afternoon under the National Gardens Scheme.
There is a certain irony to the bee's apparent stupefied state. As the Wikipedia article referenced just above notes, "Physostegia are known commonly as obedient plants because a flower pushed to one side will often stay in that position". In French, this earns the plant the epithet 'cataleptique', which, when translated, could well apply to the bee in this photograph as well.
