Hong Kong Garden
After yesterday’s run we couldn’t be bothered cooking tea, so went out for a takeaway. Doesn’t sound that dramatic but it is actually the first takeaway meal of any description we have had in eighteen months. Can’t verify that the establishment Mrs C visited was actually called “Hong Kong Garden”, but Souxsie and the Banshees didn’t do a track called “Golden Dragon” (or whatever it was!)
This particular meal - Chicken with Green Pepper in Black Bean Sauce, with chips - was a favourite of ours a few years back when we were clearing out the mother-in-law’s house. It wasn’t actually possible to do any cooking then, but in any event we were usually to tired to do anything other than get a takeaway of one sort or another.
The big advantage of this meal is that the generously sized portions mean we only need one between us. The meal itself was delicious, but slightly upset stomachs this morning would imply that we are not used to that sort of food after a year and a half away from it!
A very busy day today. Early away from Chester in an attempt to get to IKEA before the crowds. Didn’t work, and we actually had to queue outside for a minute or so before we could get in. We kept our masks on but were probably in the minority. As we knew exactly what we wanted we were able to short cut some of the maze they lay out for you to follow, with only one detour to look at office chairs (won’t be needed until October at the earliest). Picked up the cupboard doors we needed - plus a bonus washing up mop! - and arrived home to find a leak in the bathroom which I just managed to fix in time before the hairdresser arrived. Haircuts for both of us and then I dashed out to post a camcorder I’d sold via eBay on Sunday, before uploading yesterday’s run time to the official Chester 10K race website. So far, I’m about 190th overall and 6th in my age group. I’ve no doubt that will change as there are still 10 days for people to upload their runs. The joiner has let us know he’ll be back tomorrow morning, so a quiet evening and an early night are definitely the order of the day.
