Under Offer
When we got home from Edinburgh we found that a prospecting pair of house martins we inspecting one of our latest rental properties. The Man had asked for a house martin nest box for one of his presents but due to work on the facia boards, re-roofing and house painting, this double nest box has only recently been put up.
These ones are made of concrete so we won't have bits of mud falling off or sparrows getting in and enlarging the entrance. The house martins spend summer here having come form Africa or Asia. It's lovely to have them and hear them chattering to each other. We might be in time for a second brood this year or they may be eying it up for next year.
What I discovered today was that their scientific name is Delichon urbicum. Delichon is an anagram of the Greek word, chelidon, which means swallows (of the town).
This morning we had been helping #2 Daughter by refitting a curtain rail and taking her to choose carpets for the new house and some paint for the flat.
