Diary of an Edinburgher

9.5/10!

The usual morning rituals - gym, hanging out the washing, watching a bit of the Olympics. I booked for brunch in a newish local cafe, Argyle Place (but they need to do a better website) which has had the bad luck of opening at the start of the last lockdown, and has just been doing takeaways. However, it’s now fully opened, though only Wednesdays - Sundays. So I booked and we went there today. And we were VERY impressed!

A short, ever-changing menu, and very reasonable prices. We both had delicious meals which looked, and tasted, fabulous. The muzak was low and nothing screechy, so that was a very big bonus from me.

I had a ‘sandwich’ with all my favourite things including pesto, olives, sun blushed tomatoes, rocket, and mozzarella on focaccia bread, with a side dish of fresh mixed salad. All for £8.50! JR had sourdough toast with avocado, honey roast ham and a perfectly poached egg, and she had to help me with my two platefulls. Mind you, we then managed a huge delicious muffin and coffees.

Just a couple of wee slip ups with the young inexperienced staff - eg a flat white was placed on the table in front of me, with the saucer full of spilled flat white… and the waitress showed no inclination to remedy it.  There were loads of crumbs on the table that were not cleaned up when a different waitress brought the dessert menu and clearly saw the mess, and ignored it. We’ve run a restaurant, and found that common sense in staff cannot be taken for granted. This place gets 9.5/10. And it’s on our doorstep.

JR took Archie out in the afternoon, then we sat out in the sunshine for a while.

Rain coming…
