Butternut

Today's the day ....................... to reproduce

When this bud eventually opens, which won't be long now - it will be a bright yellow, female, butternut squash flower.

I  grew the plant from a seed that came out of an actual butternut squash that I was making into a pan of soup back in the spring.  Already you can see the bulge under the flower, which (if all goes to plan) will turn into another butternut squash.

Now I know this is how nature works(!) - but I still find it completely amazing and clever that this should be the case.  I will never stop being in awe of the natural world ........................
