Men of Worth

A play on words for those of you who may not be aware of the Worth Valley, and Worth river which flows into the Aire.

Andy Wade and Ian Walkden are a dedicated pair who have researched the fallen and survivors of the World Wars from the Worth Valley. The names of all the fallen were read out at the Remembrance Day parades on the 100th anniversaries, they have rescued War Memorials and plaques from demolished buildings and found new homes for them, and got commonwealth war graves for some who though entitled didn’t have one.  Their efforts have been rewarded and the Men of Worth were awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, and I was honoured to be invited to the presentation of it today from the Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Edmund Anderson.

Apologies for the poor photo, but obviously I didn’t want to interrupt the ‘official’ photos.
