Squirrel damage

All my bird feeders have some mmform of protection to prevent the squirrels getting to the food, but the other day I saw a squirrel climbing all over the outside of the cage. Next day I found the exposed filler cap had been attached, and the release buttons had been chewed away, making it very difficult to get the cap off. The main body oc the cap is metal, but the release buttons are plastic.
