Lonely

Do you know that lovely children's picture book about the velveteen rabbit that was loved so much he became very, very shabby, and then he became real? If you are familiar with the story, you may remember this quote:

"Weeks passed, and the little Rabbit grew very old and shabby, but the Boy loved him just as much. He loved him so hard that he loved all his whiskers off, and the pink lining to his ears turned grey, and his brown spots faded. He even began to lose his shape, and he scarcely looked like a rabbit any more, except to the Boy. To him he was always beautiful, and that was all that the little Rabbit cared about. He didn't mind how he looked to other people, because the nursery magic had made him Real, and when you are Real shabbiness doesn't matter."
? Margery Williams, The Velveteen Rabbit

Gulliver's teddy bear, left on the ground in the middle of our front yard, is not in much danger of becoming real. He may become shabby, but he is much more likely to become soaking wet because Gulliver loves him enough to carry him out the door, but not enough to bring him back inside. Maybe I should read Gulliver the story of The Velveteen Rabbit.

Oh, and no dogs or teddy bears were harmed in the making of this blip. I had to go out to retrieve him and decided he was the best blip I was going to get on this dreich day. So there you have it!
