Thistledown Farm, near the camping area
Helena offered to buy lunch for us after we did our third run to the 'tip' in a week. As the Nympsfield tip was quite close to Thistledown Farm, which we'd never visited, we thought it was a good time to go. There is a cafe onsite there which has been recommended.
Thistledown Farm is close to the Cotswold escarpment next to the Woodchester valley and accessed from Nailsworth via Tinkley Lane. The cafe was large and spacious and had good healthy food, although they weren't actually offering a lunch menu as such.
After we had our food sitting outside looking out over the extensive views across Gloucestershire, we went for an exploratory walk. There are three camping areas, two of which are car free, set between meadows and both old and recent woodland. Compared to many campsites we've been to this is a delightful place. The reviews on the website seem to confirm its appeal. Anyone wanting to visit this area would be very happy here, just about four miles from Stroud town.
