DESCANSOS: Spanish for resting place

These roadside memorials are popular in the Southwest.
You'll find them in random spots along busy highways.

They commemorate where a person died suddenly and unexpectedly.
They also serve as a warning to cars passing by at 70 plus mph.

I never knew Mandy Lynn, but I pass by her memorial on my way to town.
Her cross is still in good shape, so many years after her death.
Today I noticed purple flowers marching around the memorial, and
Decided to take a closer look.

I'm not sure what I think about the whole "descansos" idea.
But it certainly is very much part of the Southwest.
