Urban Mystery of the Equinox

Far from being an arbitrary indicator of the changing seasons, at precisely 7:02 A.M. EDT, the Sun will cross directly over Spring Street.

These brief but monumental fire escape shadows owe their significance to the 23.4 degree tilt of the Earth's axis. Because of the tilt, we receive the Sun's rays most directly.

Is it a coincidence that early Egyptians built this mattress warehouse so that it points directly toward the rising sun on this day? Is it a coincidence they built it on the very spot where Spring Street begins?
