Life in Sunny Dubai

Spiral

We were out of the house early this morning (before the sun got on the car and made it into an oven). The mission was to get to the Wafi Management office to collect my win from last week promotional draw - a pair of movie tickets. The office is tucked away in a corner near this glass feature which I love to photograph. I love the spiral effect, which sort of sums up my life at the moment!

Seriously, I'm so glad I dressed up because when I received the tickets, I was asked for permission to take a picture for publicity. Anyone who knows me knows how much I hate being in front of the camera. I think it was on the fifth shot that the photographer finally felt he had something he could use.

We stopped at ICONS for a tea and then a quick shop in Carrefour before coming home for the day. It is the 8th of August. I reminded G that on 08.08.08, we watched the Opening Ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. I think we were on holiday in Stuttgart at the time. Thirteen years on, we would have watched the Closing Ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics if we'd been able to. I heard rain spoilt plans for the last day. So sad. It was great to see GBR in fourth place on the Medals table.

OneDrive reminded me of lots of happy memories of this day in years gone by. We've been in London for most of them. It might have been the same this year were it not for travel restrictions courtesy of COVID-19; speaking of which, this ad by Emirates is currently getting a lot of attention.
