Marlborough (Monday 9th August 2021)
Realising that my journal has been over-burdened with shots of flora, of garden and wild varieties, I set out to drive to Marlborough with a view to finding animals to photograph - water voles, egrets, swans, what have you.
My first stop was at the Stonebridge reserve near Mildenhall on the far side of Marlborough, where I walked alongside the River Kennet in the rain on some bouncy decking, but the decking came to an abrupt end before it should have and the last section of the path was impenetrable. A second path on the other side of the river was more successful but apart from some distant Herefords in the middle of a meadow I did not see any animals at all.
Parking again in the centre of town in what was by now quite heavy rain I walked through the Waterfront Garden and Cooper's Meadow, also devoid of animals apart from a few ducks, and wound up doing some shopping at Waitrose before returning home.
So here are some wildflowers again, taken in Stonebridge Lane and (in Extras) the first purple loosestrife I have seen this year, on the Kennet in Cooper's Meadow.
With thanks to Miranda1008 (happy birthday!) for Wildflower Week.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Jimmy Reed - Odds And Ends (recorded 1957, Chicago IL)
My most recent CD purchase was volume 4 of The UK Sue Story! Guy Stevens put the first three volumes together, but then left the label, so this new compilation reflects what he might have selected for it. The British Sue label run by Guy Steven and licensed American releases from various labels, some old and some new, to be played particularly in the mod and Northern Soul clubs that were prevalent at the time. Some found their way onto the radio via programmes such as Mike Raven on Radio 390 and Radio One.
Odds And Ends was released on Sue WI-4004 in March 1966, a curious and eccentric choice as it was an untypical Jimmy Reed harmonica-led instrumental, not released here before but out in America on Vee-Jay in October 1958, featuring the scratchy electric violin of Remo Biondi. A slightly faster version was made a little later and re-titled Ends And Odds.
