St. James the Great
“Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond our grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.”
Nathaniel Hawthorne
As I sat, feet up on a chair, having a morning tea break I thought to myself how beautiful the peacock butterflies on the nearby buddleia (butterfly bush) looked in the morning light. With that one of them flew over and perched next to my feet. I didn’t dare move lest I disturb it. Then, while admiring it and reflecting on my earlier thought, a dragonfly cruised over and perched on my raised knee. I had chance to enjoy these two miracles of nature for several minutes, the dragonfly even flew off and returned to my knee moments later. No sooner had they flitted away, job done, than a colourful (male) pheasant wandered into the garden through the hedgerow.
Later I wandered in to Colwall shops, passing the church of St.James the Great, which was open! I’ve photographed the church before so today I was looking for something a bit different, and the old lamp outside the entrance fitted the bill.
