Hovering in the Snowbells
A much better day weather -wise with some sun, and no rain.
We went for a short local walk to admire this Japanese Snowbell tree, Styrax japonicus (probably "Fargesii" cultivar) full of beautiful white flowers. I first noticed the tree last week and subsequently identified it. However, this morning, I was excited to see there was also a large hover fly (about 2cm long body) taking nectar from the flowers. I think it is Volucella zonaria, which in GB is only found in the South. So you have two beauties in my blip today!
