Clusterf**k
The title just about sums up the day!
Headed over to Metheringham to see my Dad as normal. As I got off the train he called to say that the council energy advisor would be calling this morning before 12, and asking me to collect some shopping. Fair enough, but it meant I had to rush. (I did stop to take this photo though!)
He called again to tell me that Estelle next door has tested positive for Covid. She thought she'd got a cold and had been keeping her distance from him since weekend. She's another person who has caught the virus despite being double-jabbed! This will mean me having to go over more for a few days.
The energy advisor called and in a three-way conversation she managed to get him on to a cheaper tariff. The latest statement from their company said he was already on the cheapest one. Turns out that was not true! Anyway, that at least went smoothly! Hearing her talk to the woman from the energy company, she clearly knew exactly what to say not to get fobbed off. I know they have made it easier for people to switch now, but knowing that you need to switch, and to find out what is available requires savvy most untrained people would not have!
Then he told me that his Sky TV isn't working. The box works - well, the lights come on to say it is working - and the TV works, but the box is apparently not receiving a signal! I tried a few things to no avail, so had to call an engineer who thinks the high winds we have had recently may have moved the dish...
Next my Dad wanted us to move the sofa to clean behind it as he was convinced an old bone of Ally's was down there, attracting flies. Turned out there were no bones, but it was still a horrible mess behind there and hard to get to with the hoover. Some of the mess had to be picked up by hand. There were flies (dead and alive) - ditto spiders!! And cobwebs everywhere. I may have nightmares!
Whilst hoovering, the hoover cut out. All the sockets in the living room and main bedroom have once again stopped working! They had this problem once before and it took ages for someone to come and sort it. Apparently someone will come out in the next 24 hours...
I have to go over there again tomorrow to finish sorting out all the mess! I'd messaged Grace to collect me later today but she'd not got the message and I kept her waiting. So we will see what tomorrow has in store...
The photo is a house in the village. It's a former Wesleyan Reform chapel, built - as it says above the door - in1853. It closed as a chapel in 1922. It makes a really lovely unique home.
