The dropped stitch

exciting happenings

Two excitements today.

Firstly, it rained. Proper rain, not just a momentary drizzle, which is all we have had for months.

Secondly, it was reported on Radio Orkney this morning that a meteor had fallen in the park opposite the hospital.

I took a photo of the plans for this park, back in May 2019. Volunteers have been working hard to complete it and there are now trees (small but growing well), paths, wild flower areas, benches all looking good.
The news item today included a plea for more volunteers, alongside a report from a very excited 'neighbour' telling his experience of seeing the meteor fall to earth.

It may not be clear from my photo on this grey, raining day, but there are two tiny creatures sheltering in one of the holes, (we were told they are Orkney voles), plus a spider (from space?) and a very convincing burnt track through the grass showing the path taken as this mysterious object 'landed'.
