Mute swan

Today's the day ........................... to mislead

There's nothing more graceful or ethereal than a white swan gliding along in the water. But is it all that it appears to be?

I mean - there's something just slightly sinister about that long white neck. It's a bit snake-like - very muscular - and if you happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time a swan will attack a man or even a boat-load of people. And as for the appearance of effortless gliding - just look at those huge paddles that are doing all the work.

Even the name Mute Swan is misleading. Apparently it's called that because it doesn't call out in flight. On the water though - the Mute Swan is far from mute.

Personally I think it's just havin a laugh ...........................
