Where we get our water!

This is a typical open well in Malawi. Most are worse though and as it goes there this is bearable, but it's far from good.
It could be dug out, built up and covered, something we call well protection and with careful management would be fine.
We are taking the hand dug well built with with brick and a concrete slab to close it in and seal it.
We screw one of our pumps into a metal coupler and you have perfectly pure, safe drinking water. The pump rarely breaks down and if it does the village women are trained to fix it in minutes using three, six inch nails and a few rubber disks we have left with them.
Probably the best direct-action hand-pump in the World, as one advertiser would put it!!
