Eilean Donan Castle
A lovely sunny morning on East Coast, after Inverness, showers and wind started. Much the same this evening.
I didn't sleep well on the ferry, even with the fine passage. Up early, and arrived in Aberdeen this morning. Headed straight out, and first stop was in Elgin. Moved on again, next stop Dornie. We headed over the Skye bridge, and into Skye. Caravan parked up at Edinbane. First time here, and wow! Can't wait to explore, passing this evening, due to the showers.
Another first for me, was exploring Eilean Donan Castle. The isle was lived in from the 6th century, with the castle dating back from the mid 13th century, with later additions and alterations. It was partially destroyed in the Jacobite uprising in 1719, and lay in ruin for 200 years, until bought in 1911. 20 years later, the restoration was finally complete, and liveable again by 1932. It had been sunny, but the clouds helped highlight the building better, when they passed over. It sure is an iconic Scottish Castle.
