Time
is just one aspect of some mild obsessions of mine - 22 years on the air as a radio person made me need to know when to stop talking for the time signal at the top of the hour. Another is delighting in soundscapes. Yet another is enjoying small, intricate machines, especially ones that run for a year without external inputs. All this and more can be found in the British Museum Clock and watch gallery which I found today after a pleasant meeting nearby.
Oh, and tea is a necessity at many points in the day (Is it Tony Benn who drinks a pint on the hour, every hour ?) but especially in the morning. We had a Teasmade once (we bought it from a nice couple - he was with the Diplomatic Wireless Service, but that is another story) and were discussing acquiring another. I was therefore delighted that amongst the sonorously ticking case clocks, and delightful if inaccurate chimes from elegant things in glass cases, is a fine piece of English ingenuity.
