Painted Lady

I felt very sorry for this Painted Lady butterfly this afternoon.  Although it is mid August, it was cloudy, windy and not very warm. The butterfly stayed on the slate chippings for quite some time, I imagine they were giving it some warmth before it was blown back up into the air and off it went. I only briefly got to see it’s lovely bright orange and black patterned wings open but think the underside of it’s wings are just as beautiful in their more muted shades.
