ST JAMES PARK

Matchday today.  First game of the new season.  Newcastle United v West Ham.  First time there has been a capacity crowd in St James Park since 29th February 2020.  ( Not quite a capacity crowd today actually - attendance was just over 50,000 and the ground holds over 52,000)

The atmosphere in and around the ground was fantastic - everyone in high spirits. The match started well for Newcastle and they scored after 4 mins.  But West ham equalised on 19 mins.  Newcastle scored again just before half time so at that point it was looking good for the home side.  However they seemed to go to pieces in the sceond half and defensively they were poor.  They allowed West Ham to score 2 more goals so final score was Newcastle 2 West Ham 4.  Not a good start to the season for The Magpies.  And it rained the whole time so I got quite wet as my seat is not under cover.

Of course as soon as I left the ground the sun came out and it got quite warm.  I popped into Tesco for a bit of shopping and then got the bus home.  Buses today were fine - both were on time and both quite empty.
