Hail Yeah

Interesting thing on the diag today. I forgot the name of the student org, but they're thanking donors to the University by writing thank you postcards. They had free shirts for anyone who wrote a thank-you. Of course, I was drawn by the free shirt. But as I was writing, I realized how grateful I am to be here. I mean, my parents are relatively affluent, so I'm not on financial aid or anything. But many students who go to UM depend on financial aid, and these donors make a lot of opportunities possible.

One thing about America is that (at least in most cases) there is equality of opportunity. My life would certainly be much different if I had never left China, or if I had been born into an even tougher situation. It's so easy to get caught up in work or in the hard times of life. Easy to complain about what we don't have and lose sight of what we do have. But stuff like this gets me thinking. I'm immature and selfish sometimes. I gotta be more grateful. I'm going for impact, impacting one little thing, impacting one person, impacting a whole community, whatever I can do. One step, one day, one week at a time. We'll see how life goes.

Shalom.
