Novak Wildlife Sanctuary
Our first visit. There wasn't much information available online and the board at the park entrance didn't have a trail map. So we winged it. After walking through tall fields where someone kindly mowed a path, we found ourselves in dense wet woods with lots of mosquitoes and a very narrow path. Mr M recanted his complaint that I sprayed too much bug spray on him. We walked in an apparent circle following white tags on trees, but never found the lake and the new boardwalk I had read about. Not another soul was there. We will revisit after I talk to someone who knows the lay of the land. I hope to catch the migrating birds there next Spring.
The photo is a shed and wildflower garden by the education center, a former home and barn built in 1818 and kept in great condition. The preserve totals 511 acres and is protected by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
