My brother-in-law (retired roads and bridges engineer) offered to help lay the last small stretch of the cedec path.

He barrowed and tipped, I shovelled, spread and tamped. But when he discovered the scale of the builder's roller then hit his head on a pruned cherry tree branch, he perhaps regretted the offer.

However, the ultimate gentleman, he said nothing.

And we were both pleased with the result of our efforts.
