Boxcar Doors
there's something sad about these rusty boxcar doors long shut at the canary station of the now abandoned oregon pacific railroad line between eugene and coos bay.
i've shot them before, but always decided not to post them.
yet, they have a strong story that only they can tell.
the doors wouldn't be so sad if you could see this railcar, maybe boxcar red, as part of a long snaking train of boxcars, passenger cars and locomotives chugging through the oregon coast rain forest years ago when the train was a big part of transportation for settlers in the lush coastal valleys.
maybe the doors would be open and you would see young men, like my uncle bud, who rode the rails during the early days of the great depression.
you would also see old growth logs piled high on freight cars that rolled along these rails for so many years.
but now the boxcar is frozen in place on rusty rails. and the only thing that gives life to the rusty doors is the shadow of budding trees in the green canyon behind.
