Grass of Parnassus

The County flower of Cumbria.

Another of those special things classed as "nationally rare, locally commom". Its a red list plant, but also "of least concern", as where it holds out it does so strongly, so hopefully shouldn't become another thing lost.

When we first moved here it wasn't to be found in the Borrowdale valley, but the last few years of controlled grazing and good land management, using the cattle to break the rough grass matt, clearing bracken (though not nearly enough) and planting literally thousands of trees has all helped this quiet little valley recover, rejuvenate and begin to thrive. I'm looking forward to what else we'll discover here in the years to come.
