Parliament Court
Another morning in Spitalfields, this one bright and sunny, though you wouldn't know that from this dingy alleyway, the official name of which is Parliament Court.
Since yesterday I have discovered a great website, Ivor Hoole's Guide to the Alleys, Courts, Passages and Yards of Central London. It seems that Mr Hoole was a passionate amateur, who wrote all this for the love of it. It was last updated in 2004 and an obituary for an Ivor Hoole appeared in August 2005.
So, now I know how Frying Pan Alley and Catherine Wheel Alley got their names, and why so many of the other little alleys and lanes and streets around Spitalfields have military titles (e.g. Gun St, Artillery Lane, etc).
