Not Portobello Beach Edinburgh Day 204

Gloucester Dock entrance from the Sharpness Canal. The graffiti daubed caisson supports the modern swing bridge which opens to allow the tall ships into Gloucester Dock. The preserved lightship used to guide boats into the River Humber. It is now called Sula - an ornithological link with the Firth of Forth. (The name "Sula" comes from the Latin Sula bassanus, a species of gannet of which many thousands inhabit the Bass Rock.) Bit by bit Gloucester's docks are being rejuvenated and its retail initiatives seem to give its neighbour, Cheltenham, a good run for its money! Return to Joppa today hoping to out drive the next tranche of wintry weather forecast for this evening.
