A day watching the tennis
Sunday
We skipped church this morning, as we had tickets to the Western and Southern tennis tournament in Mason - Sunday being the only day Laura didn’t have any work. Roger and I had been once before, a couple of years ago, but Laura had never been, so she was excited to go. When we got up, we were disappointed to see it was overcast and raining, though not heavily. It was scheduled to start at 10 am, but when we arrived at about 10.20, they were going over the Center Court with a series of driers (top left). Things got under way at 11 am. We didn’t see any big names - for one thing it’s early in the tournament, and many are missing this year, we assume due to the Olympics. We watched part of a women’s match, before going to one of the outer courts to see Britain’s Heather Watson play. Not only is she British, but she was born and spent her early years on the island of Guernsey, Roger’s homeland! She won in 3 sets against a Swedish player (top two). We went on to see a men’s match and a men’s double. The weather stayed dry the rest of the day, with a little sun occasionally peeking through the clouds. They have a good food court, with all sorts of food and drink available, so we had a most enjoyable day.
